The work uses the stripes of the Peruvian flag to express a critique of the extractive economic model of Peru. With the use of these colours, I also make reference to a state of mourning.
Mining as well as other extractive activities affect the environmental reality and reflect the structural reproduction of aspects of the political and social colonial order. In 2017, the former National Office for Dialogue and Sustainability (ONDS) registered 66 cases of mining conflicts expressed through protests and demonstrations in various communities in Peru. This shows that no significant transformations such as inclusion and civic engagement have taken place in the decision making concerning affected regions and communities, as well as their way of life and nature
