My artistic proposition is developed on the idea of an encounter with a Mountain-being embracing a multiplicity of possible worlds – understanding rivers, mountains, oceans, rocks, as a subject and being. As an installation, the work invites collaborators and visitors to connect to the mountain from the outside, and to experience from within the mountain, hearing voices and heartbeats of different beings. The mountain herself is made out of textile. It addresses the traditional knowledge from Andean communities and how they understand and connect with Nature.
In Andean cosmovisions, the concept of time and space forms a unity within Pacha/Tierra/ Earth. Indigenous communities in Perú indicate that Pacha is even more than this conjunction, it is the cosmos. This cosmos is the time-space where all living beings live, and because it is alive, it is dynamic, a flow of energies. Performing as the Mountain-being as a collective, immersing into the sound environment , the aim is to explore and become aware of time and the space we inhabit. This also leads us to become aware of our corporeality, and the fact that there is a relationship between humans and nature and the necessity to form a unity. The meaning of this collective sound performance is based on this relationship between subject, body and nature and the reunion (“joining again”) of humans with the various components of the universe/ Pluriverse. The participation of different actors gives space to diversity and imagination to create an openness to different ways of relating to each other.
